Invisalign is a highly effective orthodontic treatment that provides beautiful results for patients who want a straighter smile. The Invisalign system can be used to correct bite problems, fix crooked teeth, improve the appearance of the smile, or a combination of these. Patients simply wear a set of plastic aligners that are custom-fit to slide over the teeth, changing out the set every two weeks until the teeth are in place.

Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible and can be taken out at any point, which is why many patients see them as the best option for orthodontic treatment. In addition, they are often more comfortable to wear than metal braces. But despite these benefits, most patients would still like to complete their treatment as quickly as possible, which is why “how long will this take?” is a common question.

How Long Will Your Invisalign Treatment Take?

The exact length of your treatment will depend on your individual case and can vary greatly for each person. However, the average Invisalign treatment takes about one year to complete.

  • During your Invisalign consultation, we’ll be able to tell you more about what to expect from your Invisalign experience, including how long you’ll need to wear your aligners.
  • Keep in mind that your treatment time will also depend on whether you follow your treatment plan properly. The success of the Invisalign system heavily depends on patient compliance. If you do not wear your aligners as directed, the length of your treatment will almost certainly be extended.

Tips for Finishing Your Orthodontic Treatment Quickly

Chances are, you want to get a straighter smile as quickly as possible. Here are some ways to ensure you are on the right track to finish your Invisalign treatment on time.

    • Though it can be tempting, don’t make a habit of going without wearing your aligners. Remember that most people will not even notice you are wearing them, and that wearing them the appropriate amount of time each day is necessary if you want a straighter smile.
    • If your aligners are lost or damaged, be sure to contact our office immediately so it can be replaced. The time you spend not wearing your aligners delays your new smile. Your aligners should be worn, at minimum, 22 hours per day. If you aren’t brushing, flossing, or eating, you should be wearing your aligners.
    • For teenage patients, the Invisalign Teen system can be highly beneficial because it comes with the Blue Dot Wear Indicator. The aligners have a blue dot that fades away with regular wear, which encourages the patient to wear the aligners and enables the dentist to gauge when it’s time for the patient to move on to the next set of aligners.
